So, what exactly can you expect during your home demonstration?
At your convenience
At Autochair we offer all our customers a free home demonstration with one of our nationwide assessment specialists. Choose a date and time that suits you and they will bring their fully kitted vehicle out to see you at home or if you prefer at your local mobility store.
The 45-minute assessment allows us to demonstrate the boot hoist and to assess your needs, mobility device and vehicle. This may take a little bit longer if you’re looking at the Milford Person Lift or both products.
Try before you buy
Our home demonstrations allow you to view the adaptations in action and try them out for yourself. This gives you the opportunity to get a real feel for the product and ensures it is comfortable, easy for you to use and meets your individual mobility needs.
Having our expert assessor at hand is also a great time to discuss any questions you may have and they will be able to advise you on suitable car and scooter/chair combinations if required.
Why is an assessment important?
Smart Lifter Boot Hoist
Our Smart Lifter range of car boot hoists fit over 480 different vehicles and can lift hundreds of different wheelchairs, powerchairs and scooters. This means the combinations of car, vehicle, scooter, and chair are almost endless! Vehicle models and year of manufacture can all be slightly different too so we need to check the boot area of your own car to ensure that we have the correct measurements so that nothing would obstruct a hoist being fitted. We also need to measure your mobility device and check there is enough room for it to be lifted into the vehicle.
Depending on those factors just mentioned, you may have to fold down the tiller and back seat or remove a seat/armrest, so we need to ensure that you’re able and happy to do so. Having a hoist may also mean losing the use of some of the seats when the mobility device is in the vehicle which we will discuss with you.
And finally, if your chair or scooter is one we have not lifted before we need to just check that it is suitable to fit a bracket to and be lifted with a hoist.
Milford Person Lift
With our Milford Person Lift, it’s important that we assess your individual needs and make sure you are comfortable and able to be lifted in a hoist and that the person operating the hoist is able to do so and is happy with the controls.
The person lift can be fitted to virtually any vehicle but not everyone can be lifted into all vehicles – it all depends on the height and level of mobility you have. Our assessment specialists are fully trained to check this for you; we will lift the person into our own vehicle and then measure your own vehicle door opening to check it is suitable.
Some vehicles will have restricted use of the glove box when a lift is fitted which we will advise if this is the case.
No obligation
Our assessor will explain the simple order process and leave you with a quotation for the products you require. You can then decide to order on the day, or if you prefer to think about it just contact us when you’re ready.
If your vehicle is on the Motability Scheme you will need to order your adaptations at the same time as ordering your new vehicle. We’ll give you a card to give to the dealership and together we’ll take care of the rest.

The majority of the demonstration and assessment is outdoors around the vehicle and we can either write out your quotation and answer any questions inside or if you prefer the whole demonstration can be done outside.
