Mrs Carnochan

Now I can easily take my scooter and dog in the car to beautiful woodlands and parks and enjoy walking my dog in the countryside without any problems.

Following a successful series of treatments for cancer in 2013, Amelia Carnochan (82) felt as though she’d been given a second chance at life.

But due to the intensity of the radiation therapy she received, Amelia was left with limited mobility and problems with her bone strength.

Undiagnosed breaks to her hip and femur led to damage and pain thought to be irreversible. Two years later, and with no improvement in sight, Amelia decided to buy a scooter to help her get around:

"Although I’m lucky enough to have family to help me, I like to do everything myself and do a lot with the help of my sticks and Zimmer frame, such as the supermarket shop.

"But there was one thing I struggled to do and missed more than anything – walking my dog. I couldn’t hold the lead and my sticks at the same time and had to resort to letting him out in the garden for exercise.

"Using my scooter would free up my hands but I couldn’t get the scooter in my car so had to stay close to home.

"Then, on a day out, my daughter and son-in-law noticed a lady in a car park who pressed a button and her scooter automatically transferred in and out of her boot. They asked for an impromptu demo and were won over immediately.

"We approached our local mobility aid dealer to order a lighter scooter and enquired about hoists too. They recommended Autochair and the rest of the process was a breeze. A lovely gentleman called Donald gave us a demonstration at my home and the hoist was fitted in no time without any hassle.

"Now I can easily take my scooter and dog in the car to beautiful woodlands and parks and enjoy walking my dog in the countryside without any problems.”

Amelia chose a Mini Hoist, part of Autochair’s Smart Lifter Rang, to aid the lifting of a scooter or wheelchair from pavement to car.

Amelia added: "As well as being able to enjoy the fresh air and exercise of dog walking, I have kept my independence which is so important to me. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Autochair to family and friends as the whole journey has been easy, quick and life-changing!”
